HIGHLIGHTS FROM RECENT SUPERVISORS MEETINGS
JANUARY 11th MEETING
~The Board approved the joint purchase with Cambria Township for a Lee Boy Model 8510TE Asphalt Paver from Stephenson Equipment Inc. on State Contract # 2420-02 for the price of $107,786.00 with $25,000 of that amount being paid by Shared Municipal Services Grant.
~Approved application authorizing the submission of the PennDOT application for 2007 County Aid for road projects.
~The Board voted to increase the regular meeting pay from $25.00 to $50.00 for members of the Jackson Township Zoning Hearing Board.
~Voted to compensate members of the Jackson Township Planning Commission at the rate of $50.00 per regular meeting to be paid quarterly similar to that of the Zoning Hearing Board.
JANUARY 25th MEETING
~Approved renewing Amfire Mining’s road bond for a n additional six month period to continue using 1.32 miles of Pike Road East.
~The Board approved a proposal by Natural Biodiversity to construct a Natural Habitat Enhancement Project at Leidy Park. The Project should take place this spring after additional plans are presented to the Supervisors. The Project could cost approximately $5,000 and the Township would provide in-kind services such as use of a backhoe, etc. The Project will not take place in areas where future development could occur at Leidy Park.
~Accepted the resignation of William T. Hines Jr., Jason M. Ponczek and Daniel M. Gonos as Part-Time Police Officers and hired Richard F. Nugent Jr. as a Part Time Police Officer.
~Voted to accept the resignation of Jeff Croft from the position of Emergency Management Coordinator for Jackson Township as well as appoint Chris Fedora to that same position.
FEBRUARY 8th MEETING
~The Supervisors hired Devon Tarner and Jeremy Scislowicz as Part-Time Police Officers for Jackson Township.
~The Board voted to enter into a lease agreement with Woodland Park Campground off Route 22 to hold the 2nd Annual Jackson Township Fishing Derby on Saturday, May 5, 2007. Last year’s Fishing Derby held at Simmons Pond was highly successful but a new location had to be found to continue the event.
FEBRUARY 22nd MEETING
~Tim Hofecker, President and Mark Sloan, Treasurer attended the Township Meeting to request help in the purchase of a new Fire Truck to replace the one that was involved in an accident while responding to a call two years ago.
~Approved subdivision (side lot addition) of Dolan Enterprises.
~Accepted the resignation of Richard F. Nugent Jr. As a Part-Time Police Officer for Jackson Township.
~The Board approved Resolution 01-07 authorizing the closing out of Community Conservation Partnership Grant # BRC-TAG-11-211 which acknowledges completion of the Jackson Township Comprehensive Recreation, Parks & Open Space Plan. The Plan is now complete and will be useful in obtainin grants and funding for future recreation and parks projects.
~Approved a five year lease with the Chickaree Ridgerunners Snowmobile Club located at Mitchell Park with two five year options for renewal.
~Authorized the advertising of bids for Heating Oil, Premium Unleaded Gas, Regular Unleaded Gas and Diesel Fuel.
UPCOMING RECREATION EVENTS
In an effort to get Community residents involved in recreational activities and events, several events have been scheduled and there is literally something for everyone. Events scheduled are as follows:
~Ice Skating at the North Central Recreation Center - Ebensburg, Saturday, March 10th.
Cost is $3.00. Skates can be rented at a discount rate of $2.00. The Event will take place from 2 to 4 pm.
~1st Annual Jackson Township Easter Egg Hunt
Saturday, March 31st. FREE ADMISSION, The Event will take place from Noon to 3pm. The Easter Bunny will be hiding thousands of eggs at Mitchell Park. Children will be able to hunt for eggs that will have candy, small toys, money or even prize tickets to be redeemed for special Easter Baskets. Also O'Donnell Photography will be on hand beginning at 11:00 am to take pictures of children with the Easter Bunny who will be making a special appearance from his busy schedule for the egg hunt!
~Bus Trip to Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington DC
Saturday, April 14th - Bus leaves Jackson Elementary at 6 am and leaves DC at 6 pm. Cost is $25.00 Highlight of the trip will be the 95th Anniversary Cherry Blossom Parade. Many attractions and museums are within a short walking distance. Reserve your seats as buses are filling up quickly!
~2nd Annual Jackson Township Fishing Derby
Saturday, May 5th from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Registrations begin at 8:00 am. FREE ADMISSION, The location for this event will be Woodland Park Campgrounds off Route 22 east towards Ebensburg. This event is for children 12 and under. Prizes will be awarded in many categories.
~Bus Trip to National Zoo in Washington DC
Saturday, May 12th - Bus leaves Jackson Elementary at 6 am and leaves the National Zoo at 6 pm. Cost is $25.00 and admission to the Zoo is FREE! This is a great trip to take the entire family on. Reserve your seats as buses are filling up quickly!
~Bus Trip to Baltimore Inner-Harbor
Saturday, June 16th - Bus leaves Jackson Elementary at 6 am and leaves Baltimore at 6 pm. Cost is $25.00. Baltimore Inner Harbor offers lots of sightseeing, museums, shopping and a fantastic aquarium. Reserve your seats as buses are filling up quickly!.
