COMMUNITY BLOCK GRANT MEETING SCHEDULED
A special meeting open to the public will be held on Thursday, March 3, 2005 at 2:00 pm hosted by Larry Custer, Executive Director of the Cambria County Redevelopment Authority. Jackson Township is an entitlement community that receives these funds every year. Mr. Custer will be looking for ideas towards a three year plan for projects where the monies can be spent. The last three years of funds have been put towards providing 22 families water in the Wagner Road & Pintail Road area of Jackson Township. The water is badly needed and the total cost of that project is approximately $500,000. In the past projects have included those for sewer, water, recreation, the senior center and housing.

Aaron was killed last year while on duty in Iraq. There will once again be a wide variety of food and activities and you'll want to invite your friends and family. This is a great opportunity to showcase your community and Jackson Township to others.

SENIOR CENTER GETS INTERNET SERVICE FOR MEMBERS
The Jackson Township Senior Center is now connected on the web. 10 computers that were recently donated by Conemaugh Health Systems were connected to the internet using Atlantic Broadband Cable - high speed internet access. The computer room was recently networked to printers and cable and now Senior Center members can browse the web online or even send emails to friends and family. It is anticipated that email will be a popular feature and many will see it as a great way to keep in touch with those out of the area rather than use long distance or pay the increasing price of postage.

GARBAGE UPDATE
As most of you are aware, a new garbage contract was recently signed and quarterly service MAY begin as early as March 1, 2005 if you signed up to begin at that time. Below are some items of importance to keep in mind:

If you had already called into Waste Management for this service and don't yet have a sticker, Charlene Cervino, Representative from Waste Management said to put your garbage out on your regular day and drivers should pick it up in regular bags. This new service can also include any large items as well.

For those of you who were asked to send in a check or sign up with a credit card for the first time only to establish yourself as a new customer, you may have received a bill due to the check not clearing, etc. If you signed up for service to begin on March 1, 2005 and sent in an amount of $36.00, you only need to pay an additional $12.00 to complete the Second Quarter. From that point on you will be billed by mail at $36.00 each Quarter.

Residents can continue to use the green bags with the Jackson Logo on them through the month of March and you can have Quarterly Service begin April 1, 2005 if you wish.

Representatives from Waste Management will be at the Municipal Building on Thursday, April 14 from 1 to 7 to refund residents for any unused bags.

March is considered a transition month and Waste Management will be doing everything possible to help make the transition smoothly.

If you are interested in the free quarterly landfill pass, those can be picked up (1 per household per quarter) at the Township Municipal Building beginning on March 1st.

If you signed up for Quarterly Service, stickers are currently be mailed out. Be sure to place your sticker in a highly visible location where a driver can see that it is for your residence. This can be in a window, on a fence post, mail box or even a garbage can, etc.

If you signed up for Quarterly Service, you may have been asked directions to your house. Even though Waste Management drivers have routinely picked up your garbage, you are not set up in Waste Managements computer. Now, as a regular customer with billing, etc. you will be in their computer and directions are necessary. One of the main reasons given is if there are substitute drivers who pick up garbage along your road from time-to-time.

If you are experiencing any problems or concerns while signing up, please feel free to call the Jackson Township Municipal Building at 749-0725.

VETERANS MONUMENT UPDATE
There have been over 400 applications received for the proposed Veterans Monument / Memorial at the park area behind the Jackson Township Senior Center. The forms have been available at the Municipal Building, Senior Center, Sewer Authority and Water Authority and most recently in a Township newsletter mailed to each household. You can also print the form on the Township website at www.jacksontwppa.com  The only two requirements to have a name on the monument is that you are a (1) veteran and (2) a resident of Jackson Township (past or present). Forms have been received from seven states and through Pennsylvania. A complete listing is available on the website under the Veterans Link. the names highlighted in white and color coded to indicate branch of service show which names application forms have been received for the monument. If the names
are not highlighted, they have been reported as Veterans but no official Monument Form was turned in. A Monument Form / Application must be turned in for each Veteran to be listed on the monument.
Each form will then be verified by various sources to be sure they are a Veteran and Township Resident to meet the criteria. The project involves alot of work and the Recreation Commission is
heading the effort up with the help of the Township, Senior Center and Veterans groups and organizations. The project has been so well received that some individuals have even contributed money towards it. The Supervisors approved at their February 24th meeting to proceed with the advertisement for bids for the proposed monument / memorial.
