FEBRUARY SUPERVISORS MEETING HIGHLIGHTS
Here are some of the highlights from The Board of Supervisors meeting held on February 27, 2003 at the Jackson Township Senior Center:
The Supervisors approved applications to be submitted for CDBG (Community Development Block Grants) to extend water lines to 22 families who reside along Wagner & Pintail Roads in Jackson Township. One grant was an entitlement grant of approximately $123,000. The other grant is competitive and Jackson Township will be competing for funds with other municipalities who also apply for grants through this program. The application for competitive funds will be for $350,000. The total cost of the proposed new water lines is $650,000. In the project, the water lines would be extended from High Ridge Water Authority in Indiana County.
The Supervisors signed Resolution 03-03 agreeing to pay 1/4 of the annual energy and maintenance costs for lighting along Route 22. The lighting will include 32 lights at the Route 271 & Route 22 Interchange, 18 lights at the Dishong Road Interchange and 3 lights each at the proposed jug handles or turn around areas which will be located near Chickaree Hill Road and County Line Road.
Mr. Chuck Meyers of Lehman Engineers gave an update on helping ackson Township comply with new PaDEP regulations regarding the NPDES Phase II Stormwater Management. He said over 1000 municipalities in urbanized areas of PA were now required to develop a stormwater plan to address pollutant runoff or stormwater discharge. Jackson Township was required to comply due to water flowing from the Township into the Hinckston Run Watershed. He said the program would be phased in over a period of 5 years to be completed in 2008. The first phase would involve sending out flyers and getting the public involved.
In other action, the Board submitted an application for County Aid to the Cambria County Commissioners for road projects in 2003. An advertisement for bids on unleaded gas, diesel gas and heating oil was authorized. The Supervisors also agreed to check into donating a 1990 Chevrolet Caprice to the Admiral Peary Vo-Tech School.
