~The Board authorized a letter to be written to PennDOT District 9 requesting that they perform a Speed Limit Study on Swigle Mountain Road from Burkhart's Crossroads to the Croyle Township Line.  There is increasing truck traffic on that section of road since the new Amfire Mine is making preparations to open.

~The Board approved a contribution of $800.00 to the Nanty Glo Public Library to help with their annual fund drive.

~Unanimously approved the naming of the park area behind the Jackson Township Senior & Handicapped Center to Jackson Township Veterans Memorial Park.  They also approved the Jackson Twp. Recreation Commission being responsible for maintenance and development of the newly named Veterans Memorial Park.  In addition they authorized the Recreation Commission to establish and set up guidelines to start a Memorial Fund.

~Accepted low bid of $12,550.00 from Laurel Highlands Fence to install two new backstops at Mitchell Memorial Park in Vinco.

Jackson Township Troop 204 has 3 Boy Scouts currently involved with helping the Township with community projects.  The three scouts involved are Mike Schenk, Aaron Henry and Ryan Davis.  Mike Schenk is currently marking selected poles and trees close to Township Roads which could potentially be a hazard with yellow reflective tape similarly to what PennDOT uses along State Roads.  Aaron Henry is doing an inventory of street signs and posts marking Township roads and intersections.  All street signs must have 6 inch lettering by the year 2012.  Other criteria include making sure Township street signs have route numbers marked, that intersections are properly marked as well as indicating posts that may need replaced. An additional part of the project involved painting protective guiderail at Mitchell Park.  Ryan Davis is currently working on rebuilding a set of bleachers at Leidy Park.  All three projects are currently underway.  Not only are the Scouts helping Jackson Township perform important community projects but the Scouts benefit by having the project help them qualify for their Eagle Badge.  We wish all three Scouts the best in their endeavors.

A Veterans Day Ceremony will be held on Thursday, November 11, 2004 at 11:00 am at the Jackson Township Senior Center. For those who attended last year, the event was a huge success with one of the largest turnouts in Cambria County. Last year’s event marked the dedication of the newly installed Community Flag Pole as well. This year, the ceremony will include Post 155 (Giestown) VFW Rifle Team, Jackson Township Troop 204 Boy Scouts & Cub Scouts, Betty Lybarger, Pastor Rick Clark of Pike Grace Brethren Church as well as a special guest speaker representing the military to be announced. Refreshments will be served. The Center encourages everyone to attend as a way to honor and thank all Veterans as well as honoring all those who are currently serving in the Armed Forces fighting for the cause of freedom for all.
