Senior Center from Adams Avenue
The Senior Center was organized July 1st, 1998
and currently has 550 members. Membership dues are $10.00 yearly and you
can join if you are 50 years or older. The Center is opened Monday 7:00 p.m.
to 9:00 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Thursday 9:00
a.m. to 4:00 p.m. If you're interested in becoming a member you can email

Upcoming Special Events
Basic Computer Training
Bob Barndt has agreed
to return to the Center to teach some basic computer classes if enough
interest is shown. The Center is taking names for those who are
interested in learning how to use the Internet and email. The exact
date of the class is not set but tentatively it will be scheduled on a
Tuesday or Thursday from 1 pm to 5 pm. If you are interested, you
may place your name and telephone # on the Basic Computer Class sign-up
sheet on the reception table inside the Center's main entrance.

Cambria County Bookmobile
The Cambria County County Library
will be making a bookmobile stop at the Jackson Township Senior Center
located at 200 Adams Avenue from 1:30 to 3:00 pm. Bring the family and
enjoy some good reading over the summer months. The bookmobile will be
available at the Senior Center on the following dates: Thursday,
July 22nd /
Thursday,
August 5th /
Thursday,
August 19th and Thursday,
September 2nd.

Free Health Screenings
Tuesday, August 3rd

There will be a Free Health
Screening on Tuesday, August 3rd from 9:30 am to 11:00 am.
The Black Lung Coalition / Pulmonary Rehabilitation will be
providing free lung screening, blood pressure checks and pulse oximetry.
April Hicks, RRT Supervisor and Project Director or another
respiratory therapist at the Windber Medical Center will be
at the Center to administer the free tests.

Calendar Party
Sunday, September 26th -
2:00 pm - The Senior Center will be hosting it's annual Calendar Party
Fundraiser. Tickets will be available and a light lunch
will be provided. If you would like to donate a new gift or
handcrafted item for the chance table or would be interested in hosting a
table, contact the Senior Center at 322-3327 or

Every Thursday at 1:00 pm, the Center will show an afternoon movie
which is donated by All The Right Movies.

of Singer Hill Grace Brethren Church.
Some of the events currently at the center
include: Bingo, Chair Exercises, Line Dancing, Crafts, Dinner Dances, Health
Fairs, Weight Loss, Pinochle Club, Bingo, Knitting, Ceramics, Horseshoe
Tournaments and currently the Center started a beginner's computer training.
Lunch is available Tuesdays thru Thursdays. Every Thursday afternoon
features a current run movie. A monthly newsletter is sent to all members
with a calendar of events. The Center improves yearly, and this year a pavilion
was built in back of the Center. A walking trail is available at adjoining
Veterans Memorial Park to
encourage health and physical fitness along with a newly equipped exercise
room.
